Three unique landscapes<\/span><\/b> meet in the holiday region of Bernkastel-Wittlich: the volcanic Eifel<\/b> , the romantic Moselle valley<\/b> and the Hunsr\u00fcck<\/b> rich in forests and meadows.<\/p>\n

A total of ten nature conservation areas and six landscape conservation areas are located in our beautiful region. Discover parts of the surrounding areas that have been designated for the protection of the natural balance, the landscape or the safeguarding of the recreational value.<\/p>\n

Anyone who spends their holidays with us can relax, exercise and enjoy. Whatever you want: from swimming, cycling, hiking, water-skiing to hang-gliding or winter sports, the range of leisure and sports on offer is extensive. In between there is definitely time to discover the numerous excursion destinations worth seeing in our region.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

WITTLICH<\/h2>\n<\/div>

The Wittlich town and country holiday region invites you to engage in activities close to nature. Beautifully located between the course of the Moselle and the adjacent heights of the Eifel, the most beautiful excursion destinations in the region can be reached easily and quickly from here. Wittlich itself, with its wide range of sports and leisure activities, interesting and varied cultural offerings, the opportunity for “experience shopping” in the picturesque inner city with atmosphere, offers something for every taste. Hiking along the Lieser, on the “most beautiful long-distance hiking trail in Germany” according to hiking pope Manuel Andrack or cycling on the Maare-Moselle cycle path are examples of successful tourist infrastructure facilities for connecting the Eifel and Mosel in the entire holiday region.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

MOSELLE<\/h2>\n<\/div>

On the Moselle<\/strong> , you can walk in the footsteps of the Romans, who brought viticulture to the place 2000 years ago and to whom the lovely climate of the Moselle gave them a feeling of home. Numerous buildings from Roman times bear witness to this era. Emperor Constantine the Great resided in Neumagen-Dhron during the summer as early as the fourth century. Let yourself be enchanted by one of the most attractive river landscapes in Germany. Visit the medieval Moselle castles, the wine culture center in Bernkastel-Kues, the Middle Moselle Museum in the Art Nouveau town of Traben-Trarbach or discover and study the famous medieval scholar Nikolaus von Kues in his birthplace in Kues. Together with the Saar and Ruwer, the Moselle is the largest Riesling-growing region in the world. During a visit to the cellar with a wine tasting directly at the winemaker, you will learn the basics of viticulture.<\/p>\n<\/div>

WINE CULTURE<\/h3>\n<\/div>

The steep slopes on the Moselle catch the sun, and the mild climate also favors wine growing. The vines on the Bremmer Calmont, the steepest vineyard in Europe, thrive particularly well. Riesling is often cultivated and is often tasted at wine tastings and in wine villages. Wine and street festivals with the coronation of the winemaker queen or a winemaker parade are annual visitor magnets.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

CUISINE<\/h3>\n<\/div>

In addition to wine, regional specialties include Riesling herb soup, Gr\u00e4wes, baked eel and vineyard peach liqueur. The ostrich inns are worth a visit. Here winegrowers serve part of their produce on their own estate. Unlike regular restaurants, they are only open four months a year. The cultural and scenic sights on the Moselle can be explored on foot. The 356 km long long-distance hiking trail Moselsteig accompanies the course of the river in Germany. Cyclists move on a well-developed network of cycle paths. Kayaks and rowing boats glide across the water in summer. A Moselle boat trip can be enjoyed in a relaxed manner.

A holiday on the Moselle is like a journey through history. The<\/span> greater area around Trier was once a settlement area for the Romans. Buildings like the Porta Nigra bear witness to this time. The Middle Ages come alive when you visit the churches and castles. Well-known knight’s castles are Burg Eltz and the Reichsburg in Cochem. Art Nouveau architecture is admired in Traben-Trarbach.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

THE EIFEL<\/h2>\n<\/div>

The Eifel<\/strong> offers a variety of holiday opportunities with its rural idyll and its unique nature, which has grown from volcanoes. In addition, a picture arc of sights – starting with the castles and palaces, churches, monasteries, and Roman excavations to lovingly furnished museums. Those interested in geological history, geoscientists and volcanologists are also enthusiastic about the Eifel region, which is millions of years old. Excavations by the Natural History Museum in Mainz have made the Eckfeld Dry Maar world famous. Among the numerous spectacular finds, the 50-million-year-old “Eckfelder Urpferdchen” (primordial horse) that can be admired in the Maarmuseum in Manderscheid deserves special mention.<\/p>\n<\/div>

POSITION<\/h3>\n<\/div>

The Eifel is a German low mountain range located in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate on the border with Belgium and Luxembourg. In the neighboring countries, the ridge continues with the name Ardennes. In the south and east, the region is bordered by the valleys of the Moselle and Rhine. In the north it extends to Aachen.<\/span><\/p>\n

VOLCANIC & GALACTIC<\/h3>\n<\/div>

Wooded hills, meadows and fields characterize the landscape. The peaks of the mountains reach up to almost 750 meters. Part of the region is shaped by volcanism, which can still be seen today in the form of maars \u2013 water-filled hollows \u2013, craters, basalt and geysers. But there is also a lot to see at night: The Eifel National Park has been awarded as a star park. Here, stargazers can look up at the sky and marvel at distant galaxies when there is very little artificial light.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

WITH BOOTS OR WHEELS<\/h3>\n<\/div>

Holidaymakers best discover the Eifel on foot or in the saddle. Numerous paths lead through dense forests through which wild rivers make their way. Idyllic country lanes invite you to leisurely strolls. Cyclists roll over old railway lines or along the river banks. On long-distance hiking trails such as the Rheinsteig from Aachen to Trier or on cycle tours, athletes get to know the Eifel up close and spend the night somewhere else every day.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

If you want to take a look into the past, you can visit medieval castles and palaces. Visitors to Eltz Castle, Satzvey Castle or B\u00fcrresheim Castle feel like they are in a fairy tale. In the open-air museum in Kommern or in the Red House in Monschau, young and old can stroll through historically furnished rooms and learn interesting things from the old days.
